I can't be the only person in the world who finds this frustrating though.
It looks like mpd is the only one that can play gaplessly and supports browsing a large library by tags.

The main design philosophy is that the user knows how they want to organize their music best the software is therefore built to be fully customizable and extensible using regular expressions and boolean logic. I came from Windows using MusicBee which is an incredibly powerful music player. Quod Libet is a cross-platform free and open-source audio player, tag editor and library organizer. This is the one thing that has been a constant source of frustration for me since moving exclusively to xubuntu a few months ago.
